 Activision Talks Next-Gen Game Prices
:: Posted by MrCHUPON on 2006-09-13 ::
According to gaming site Gamespot, Activision - publisher of the Tony Hawk and Call of Duty videogame franchises, and recent purchaser of Guitar Hero publisher Red Octane - has confirmed that Sony Playstation 3 games will retail for around $60.

This price matches the current standard for third-party Microsoft Xbox 360 offerings, which currently sit at $59.99 MSRP.

Says Gamespot's Brendan Sinclair:

"In a presentation to the Merrill Lynch Media and Entertainment Conference yesterday, Kotick indicated that the company is taking a next-gen pricing approach to its next-gen software, thanks in part to its success pricing PlayStation Portable games at $50, and Xbox 360 software like the best-selling Call of Duty 2 at $60."

There was no confirmation about Activision's standard pricing for Nintendo Wii games during this presentation. However, in an interview with IGN Wii, Vicarious Visions' CEO Karthik Bala - whose development house is preparing the game Marvel Ultimate Alliance for Wii - was quoted as saying that his team's title would be priced at $49.99 MSRP. It is also speculated by those in the gaming media that other third-party Wii game prices should likely be the same as the current-gen standard of $49.99.
