Gradius V

 Publisher: Konami
 Developer: Treasure
 Genre: Shmup
Author:

AT A GLANCE
aesthetics
GRAPHICS: Crisp, polygonal graphics with nicely detailed textures. Nothing insanely fancy - but pretty and 60 fps smooth.
SOUND: Great score from Hitoshi Sakimoto is accompanied by typical shmup sounds effects.
execution
GAMEPLAY: Arse-hard gameplay, precision control, and level and enemy design so well-executed that smartbombs are - as with all Gradius games - unnecessary.
VALUE: The replay value is in the gameplay. Beat your high score. Last longer on a single life. Challenge yourself. There are no frilly unlockables here.
OVERALL
It all depends on if you're ready to be, as they say, owned. Gradius V will eat you alive, and it's an experience I highly recommend.
